I’m working at Merribee Garden, (In Nowra, NSW) and they’re using crepe myrtle branches as fencing in the veggie garden, it’s the way to go!! Other popular options are Willow, Hazel, sweet chestnut, Ash, apple, and Wattle. It’s one of the most eco-friendly choices when it comes to fencing. it’s simple, materials are easy to source and it’s free. It is made by weaving thin branches (or strips of wood) in between upright stakes to form a woven lattice. This is an old building technique that is traditional to the British Isles, Ireland, and other parts of Europe. This traditional technique dates back to Neolithic times. It has commonly been used to make a wide range of hurdles or fencing enclosures. You gotta give it a go, it even looks pretty cool.. adds a different structure and element to the garden..
